From farm to creamery

In 2017, Nelson farmers Murray and Julian’s dairy farms were producing some of the world’s highest-quality milk, only for it to be sent off as a generic commodity. Local food technologist and friend, Kirsty Giles, suggested they turn their excellent milk into ice cream. While it sounded simple, it took years of research, determination, and ingenuity to create something unforgettable. Kirsty’s expertise and vision, combined with Julian and Murray’s can-do approach, resulted in a world-class product that is enjoyed throughout New Zealand and beyond. This is the cornerstone of Appleby Farms’ local approach and globally ambitious vision.

Appleby Farms boasts an award-winning selection of ice creams and frozen yoghurts with milk sourced from their local farms. Their premium products, available in supermarkets, cafés, and Silky Otter Cinemas nationwide, combine irresistibly creamy textures with bold, unapologetic flavours.

Appleby Farms masterfully balances health and taste. Their frozen yoghurt range, enhanced with live probiotics, boasts a 4.5 Health Star Rating. Meanwhile, their premium ice creams marry locally sourced dairy with the finest global ingredients. Their Strawberry Swirl Frozen Yoghurt has also recently won Best Frozen Yoghurt in the 2024 Health Food Guide Awards.

Deeply embedded in their local community, Appleby Farms prioritises sustainability in their operations. They source milk from family farms to minimise their carbon footprint, and continually refine their practices, distinguishing themselves in the ice cream industry. Their commitment to community involvement is evident through generous donations to local fundraisers, including their support of The Christmas Joy Store which provides gifts to families in need.
